AMMAN The Cassation Court has upheld a January Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to 12 years in prison after convicting him of attempting to murder a man and a woman in Mafraq in April 2019.
The Criminal Court declared the defendant guilty of attempted murder, stemming from “a heated dispute” with the victims, on April 22. The defendant was given the maximum sentence.
Court papers said that the defendant had an old feud with the victim’s family and headed to their house to “discuss the matter”.

AMMAN The Court of Cassation has upheld a March State Security Court (SSC) ruling, reducing the sentence of a university student convicted of possessing illegal narcotics in Amman in November of last year.
The court declared the defendant guilty of possessing illegal narcotics and handed him an 18-month prison term and JD1,500 in fines.
However, the court decided to reduce the sentence to six months in prison and JD500 in fines “because the defendant is completing his higher studies in Saudi Arabia and would lose his residency”.
Man gets 15-year prison term for attempted murder of 4 neighbours

AMMAN The Cassation Court has upheld a February Criminal Court ruling, sentencing a man to 15 years in prison after convicting him of attempting to murder four of his neighbours while robbing their home in Zarqa in June 2019.
The Criminal Court declared the defendant guilty of stabbing a woman, her two children and her friend while attempting to rob their home on June 10 and handed him the maximum punishment.
Court papers said the defendant needed JD100 to pay a loan and decided to rob his neighbours.
Man gets 4 years in jail for murder attempt

AMMAN The Cassation Court has upheld a February Criminal Court ruling, sentencing a man to four years in prison after convicting him of attempting to murder a man in Amman in June 2019.
The Criminal Court declared the defendant guilty of shooting the victim in the stomach on June 24 following “a heated argument” and handed him a six-year prison term.
However, the court decided to reduce the prison term to four years because the victim dropped the charges against the defendant.
Court papers said the victim received a call from his father to head to the defendant’s home to solve an outstanding problem.
