10 pubs with pretty beer gardens in Canterbury

Bursting with green foliage in the warmer months, the beer garden at the Dolphin is a lively place to sip a glass of something. Food is simple but packed with flavour and includes pub favourites and tempting desserts such as homemade blackberry and pear crumble and a Belgian waffle with toffee-banana sauce and double cream ice cream – all to be enjoyed outdoors. Why we love the Dolphin: its vibrant atmosphere has us excited for summer, and it has a hearty Sunday roast with your choice of beef, lamb, pork, chicken, baked vegetable and mixed nut patty, or a spinach and mushroom pie with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, braised cabbage, roast carrots and parsnips and stuffing – phew!

Queues as salons and barbers reopen across Swindon

Barbers and hairdressers reopened as part of the next phase of the government’s roadmap. People waited outside Celly’s hair salon, The Boss Barber, My Style Barber Shop and New Image barbers as they grabbed their first opportunity for a trim in months. George Ikley, 24, was one of them. He said: “I have a funeral on Wednesday that I have to go to, so I wanted to look smart. The last time I had a haircut was in December, it’s not been too bad because I’ve trimmed it every so often, but I wanted it done properly.

Unwanted items flytipped outside RSPCA charity shop in Swindon

PILES of charity donations are going to waste because people are ignoring pleas not to dump them outside charity shops. In the latest incident of flytipping half a dozen bags of clothing were left at the RSPCA shop in Havelock Street even though it has been shut for weeks due to the pandemic. Richard Clowes, chief executive of Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre which runs the shop said: “It’s not just our shop it’s happening to lots of them around Swindon and the country. Unfortunately, there are two sorts of donors, one being people who want to give us items to sell, and then there are other people who are leaving them there because we’re closer than the tip.
