Carolyn Wangelin
WILMINGTON Carolyn Wangelin, 79, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born April 22, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Donald J. Wangelin and Elizabeth Moe Wangelin.
Carolyn worked as a manager in the retail jewelry business. Carolyn loved to visit yard sales and collecting various items here and there. She enjoyed singing in the choir and loved dogs, cats and pretty much all pets in general. Most of all, she loved visiting her grandchildren and spending time with them.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Maynard; sons, David Hoff and Jeremy Hoff; and brother, Jim Wangelin.
The driver of the vehicle being shot at ran off the road less than one mile from where the shooting occurred and came to a stop at the entrance to Meridian at Fairfield Park Apartments at 4605 Fairview Drive, the release said.
There was one boy and two other men in the car being shot at: the 15-year-old boy, of Jacksonville, who was pronounced dead at the scene; Delts, who was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries; and 25-year-old Daquan Daniels, who did not suffer any injuries, the release said.
According to the release, the suspects vehicle left the scene. Trequan Crews, 22, was stopped and arrested by members of the Mobile Field Force team that night in the 2900 block of Clayton Street. Officers found a handgun in his vehicle which was submitted as evidence.
