CITY ORDINANCE PROTECTS WORKERS WHO TAKE TIME OFF TO GET A COVID SHOT: Employers who do not let workers take time off to get a COVID vaccine could face fines of up to $5,000 per offense under a new city ordinance.
City Council Wednesday approved a measure that prohibits employers from firing, disciplining or taking any adverse action against an employee who misses time on the job to get a shot. If a worker has paid sick leave or accrued time available, bosses must let their workers use that time to get their shot. Employers who require a COVID vaccination must pay their employees if the vaccine is offered during a shift, up to four hours per dose, a city release said.
