THE founding director of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum has been hailed as a visionary following his death aged 95.
Dr George Thompson, who took charge of the museum at Cultra in Co Down in 1959, was awarded an OBE for his services in 1976.
The Queen s University Belfast graduate went on to study at Chigaco University in the 1950s before returning home and taking up his position and turning the museum into a hugely popular visitor attraction.
