Google helped commencement speaker choose Tarleton

STEPHENVILLE It was straight-up good fortune that led Lexie Miller to Tarleton State University.
Googling colleges in Texas, high school-age Lexie remembered a sweatshirt she had borrowed emblazoned with Tarleton’s logo. It was the only time she’d even heard of the school.
She clicked to learn more.
“It was a very random selection,” she said. “It was not really a whim, but I wanted to get away from the small town I was in. The campus looked cool so I came and took a tour. When I was on campus, I felt like this is where I needed to be.”
The semester is wrapping up for students of all ages, and the transition into summer 2021 is underway.
 The year following a summer that was rendered relatively house-ridden due to COVID-19 concerns, this summer will likely be more action packed.Â
Students are already gearing up to make the most of their summer, especially Texas Tech students in Lubbock.Â
Liam Kelly, a junior communications major from Houston, is looking to make the most of his final summer.Â
âItâll be my last summer really, since next year will be my senior year, then onto adulthood,â Kelly said. âThe fact that weâre coming off COVID, too, so we really had last yearâs summer taken from us.âÂ
A self-sustaining home and small holding will be built near Freshwater East under the One Planet Development scheme. A single dwelling, reconstruction and extension of an existing barn, alterations to another existing building as well as a temporary shepherd hut has been approved by National Park planners on land off Jason Road. One Planet Development’s allow people to live off the land in the open countryside in a self sufficient and eco-friendly way. The site, known as Holly Lake, is on the road between Jameston to Hodgeston and is around five acres in size. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee discussed the plan at its meeting on April 21.
