Vietnam recorded 78 new COVID-19 cases, including 65 domestically-transmitted infections and 13 imported, in the past 12 hours to 6pm on May 8, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said.

The new patients were detected in the capital city of Hanoi (22), Bac Ninh (17), Da Nang (8), Vinh Phuc (7), Quang Ninh (1), Bac Giang (1), Hung Yen (3), Hai Duong (1), Thai Binh (1), Thua Thien-Hue (1), Nam Dinh (1) and Quang Nam (1) and Hai Phong (1).

An Indian expert has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) after finishing his quarantine period and returning to his apartment in Hanoi.
The 37-year-old foreigner works for VinFast Company, a domestic automaker under Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate Vingroup, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (Hanoi CDC) confirmed on Tuesday morning.
He arrived in the Southeast Asian country on April 17 and was quarantined at Canh Hung Hotel in the northern city of Hai Phong upon entry.
Illegal Chinese entrants found in Hanoi amid coronavirus outbreaks

Over 40 Chinese were found illegally residing in Hanoi s Nam Tu Liem District since late April amid concerns regarding recent coronavirus outbreaks in Vietnam.
Chu Xuan Dung, deputy chairman of the municipal People s Committee, on Sunday said the Chinese would be tested for Covid-19 and be transferred to a centralized quarantine zone in Hoang Mai District. They were discovered by police Sunday afternoon.
He reiterated the three main sources that pose Covid-19 risks for Hanoi are those who return to the city from other localities, those entering Vietnam legally and are put into centralized quarantine zones, and those who enter the country illegally.

Hanoi plans to turn the five suburban districts of Hoai Duc, Gia Lam, Dong Anh, Thanh Tri, Dan Phuong into inner districts in the next five years
and then three rural districts of Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin, Me Linh will become urban districts in the period of 2026-2030.
The Hanoi Party Committee has issued Program No. 04 on building new rural areas, which emphasizes construction of the countryside in the new model which meets urban criteria.
