LAHAINA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A celebration of life for Hawaiian music icon Willie K will be held on Maui on Tuesday.
Itâs been exactly one year since his death.
His loved ones are organizing a drive-by celebration to honor Willie K from 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. at Wahikuli Wayside State Park.
William Awihilima Kahaialiâi, known simply as Willie K or Uncle Willie, died May 18, 2020 after enduring a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

Veteran island reggae band Ekolu, the band’s co-founder Lukela Keala, and fellow musicians Kaleo Phillips, Makamae Auwae and Ka Pilina head the list of Maui artists nominated for the 2021 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.
Ekolu is nominated for Group of the Year and their latest recording, “2020,” is up for Album of the Year and Reggae Album of the Year.
“I’m super excited,” said Keala, the lead singer, who was getting ready to head off island for a concert.

Born & raised in the San Francsico Bay Area, moved to the Big Island in 1993. He joined the Broadcasting business in 1995 and earned his way to the morning show in less than 2 years. Since then Jaz has anchored #1 Morning Shows with the Original “Zoo Crew” , “Da Boloheads”, “The Aloha Morning Show” and currently the “Bolohead & Babes Show” with Partner (and Wife) Ka’ea Lyons.
Jaz has been the Program Director for Kapa Hawaiian Fm since 1998 and also does all the Production & Imaging . When not doing radio, Jaz is Producer & Engineer at KML Studios and has produced dozens of radio hits which has earned him two Hoku Awards & numerous Award nominations. His other passion is Martial Arts. Jaz Teaches Catch wrestling & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is a Hawaii Martial Arts Hall of fame Member.
