17 inmates granted early release Eid remission not available to people convicted of terrorism, heinous crimes KARACHI: Like every year, the Sindh government has announced constitutional relief to select prisoners on the festive occasion of Eidul Fitr. The Sindh government has announced 90 day remission for women prisoners aged 60 and above and for men aged 65 and above as well as for inmates who have completed one third of their sentence. However, inmates serving sentences for committing treason, terrorism, murder, rape, armed robbery, kidnapping for extortion and other heinous crimes will not get the benefit of remission. The remission has reduced the jail term for 81 eligible prisoners and at least 17 among them will be able to secure early release and go home to celebrate Eid with their families. Ismael Sama, 60, from Nana Dinara village in Kutch, located some 60 km from the Pakistan border, had mistakenly crossed over to Pakistan while grazing his cattle. He was arrested and kept in the jails of that country before he was released two days back following the Islamabad High Court’s order on a plea moved by the Indian High Commission there.
