A year after Leo Williams (9) was fatally injured when a police rubber bullet struck his head on 31 July 2020, no one has yet been arrested.
Leo had been playing with friends inside a corrugated iron structure where he lives in St Helena Bay while a violent protest took place in the streets outside. A rubber bullet fired by police penetrated the structure and slammed into Leo’s head.

He was rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to remove the rubber bullet as it was too close to his brain. Leo died on Monday, 17 August 2020. Doctors removed the rubber bullet during an autopsy.

Hospital charged over alleged assault on nurse
Austin Health has been charged with two breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to maintain a workplace that is safe and without risk to health.
The hospital has been charged under section 21(1) and 21 (2)(a) of the OHS Act for failing to maintain safe systems of work; and under section 21(1) and 21(2)(e) for failing to provide information, instruction and training.
The charges relate to an incident on 17 September 2019 in which a patient allegedly assaulted a nurse in the psychiatric unit’s high support area.
The matter is listed for a mention hearing at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 6 October 2021.

A woman who impersonated a Home and Away heartthrob to catfish women online is accused of attempting to bust up a married man s relationship after becoming infatuated with him.
Melbourne woman Lydia Abdelmalek, 29, was sentenced in June 2019 to a two-year, eight-month prison term for six counts of stalking, employing what one victim called sick mind games and impersonating soap star Lincoln Lewis.
On Monday she was released back into the community on bail after being locked up on April 22 amid fresh allegations she is again tormenting strangers.
