#3 Oregon Softball Falls to #2 UCLA 6-2; Drops Series 1-3

Posted on In the series finale of #3 Oregon and #2 UCLA, the Bruins proved to be too much to handle for the Ducks. Oregon got off to a good start both offensively and defensively in this one, with solo HRs from Allee Bunker and Haley Cruse in the first few innings to go up 2-0. Brooke Yanez held UCLA without a hit for the first four innings, but then the bats woke up for the Bruins. Kinsley Washington drove in a run for the Bruins in the fifth to make it 2-1. Then in the sixth, Rachel Garcia hit a two-run shot to left field to claim the lead at 3-2. Oregon had a chance to tie or lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when the first two runners were walked, but Rachel Garcia managed to retire three straight to keep the game at 3-2. Then in the top of the 7th, Briana Perez struck a 3 run HR to stretch the lead to 6-2 and pull Brooke Yanez out of the game. In 6.2 innings, Yanez allowed 5 hits and threw 8 K’s. Posted on By Knight Jarecki Jane Sanders Stadium was filled with fans for the first time this season as Duck fans witnessed the #3 Oregon Ducks upset the #2 UCLA Bruins 3-0 Friday night. With the win on Friday, Oregon hands UCLA their second loss of the season, both of which have come at the hands of the Ducks. The game was a pitching dual as both teams threw their aces in Brooke Yanez for the Ducks and Megan Faraimo for the Bruins. The two pitchers entered the game with less than a 1.50 ERA and 10 wins each. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning when Allee Bunker blasted a 2 run home run to left breaking the deadlock at 2-0. The Ducks offense stayed hot in the next inning as Haley Cruse ripped a double to right center field driving in Deijah Pangilinan to extend the Ducks lead to 3-0.

Brooke Yanez, Allee Bunker lead No. 3 Oregon softball in shutout of No. 2 UCLA Updated 9:06 PM; EUGENE Brooke Yanez was nearly untouchable and Allee Bunker was dialed in at the plate for Oregon softball against UCLA. Yanez struck out eight and allowed just two hits and Bunker went 3 for 3 with a two-run home run to lead the No. 3 Ducks to a 3-0 win over the No. 2 Bruins Friday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium. Other than feeling out the strike zone for the first few hitters, it was another stellar performance from Yanez (14-0, 1.12 ERA), who needed just 97 pitches to mow through the Bruins.
