Passimâs Matt Smith brings his love of local music to the airwaves

It feels like a match made in New England music heaven.
Matt Smith, the managing director of Club Passim who has booked thousands of acts at the Cambridge club in the last quarter century, is now also an WMVY-FM DJ, spinning local tunes each week for the stationâs âLocal Music Caféâ program.
âTo me, the absolute joy in this is hoping to find some new favorites for somebody,â said Smith. âAnd to show my own tastes beyond what I program at Passim â this is an opportunity to spread those wings.â

Danny Hoshino delivers a stunning debut with his single, âDoubt,â released in November. The track is Hoshinoâs first release under his indie-folk solo project, Dan Ho!, following his work in former band the Novel Ideas.
âDoubtâ explores Hoshinoâs experiences with anxiety and how it can be affected by the ebb and flow of life. The song showcases Hoshinoâs soulful voice, enhanced by the backing vocals of local singer/songwriter Hayley Sabella. His work on the pedal steel guitar makes for a wonderfully warm country folk song. Though he reports many influences â from Jackson Browne and Little Feat to The Novel Ideas â Hoshino establishes himself as a strong solo artist with a distinct sound.
