A man is on oxygen support outside Rajkot Civil Hospital Rajkot: Rajkot Civil Hospital and even private hospitals are continuing to operate amid anxiety owing to shortage in oxygen supply, resulting in many hospitals having to turn away new patients with oxygen requirements from its doorstep. While the state government through a notification allowed all hospitals and nursing homes to start Covid facility without prior permission to solve the crisis for beds, there seem to be no takers because of the prevalent shortage. According to Rajkot medical association (RMA) Rajkot’s requirement was 120 tonnes per day which increased to 200 tonnes per day with rise in number of patients especially severe cases requiring oxygen support. The only facilities at Shapar and Metoda that provide industrial oxygen is facing queue of hospital staff since the morning. The collector office had deputed Mamlatdar with police force to handle law and order situation.

Rajkot: For the past two days, Rajkot private hospitals had been facing short supply of oxygen resulting in a few hospitals declining to admit new patients on Wednesday. However, later the district administration assured the hospital administrations of restoring normal supply by evening. Oxygen requirement in Rajkot’s Covid hospitals is around 90,000 kilo litre (KL) per day of which, around 40,000 KL is consumed by the civil hospital and Samras hostel alone. Around 900 patients are being treated in these hospital facilities. Dr Hiren Kothari, member of national working committee of Indian Medical Association (IMA) said, “We have been told that there is low supply from the agency where we are procuring oxygen. We had no option but to stop admitting newer patients as we have to first ensure that we can provide enough oxygen support to the existing patients.”
