Yarn flux riddle gets textile producers heads spinning | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: Relieved though at the sight of easing lockdowns in the other states and hopeful that goods will start moving, the garment and textile producers have a new worry in the fluctuating rates of yarn, their biggest raw material. They claim that the hike is artificial. The manufacturers look to the state and central governments for help in increasing production. Sharing his concerns with the media, Bharatiya Vyapar Mandal senior vice-president Radhe Shyam Ahuja said: “In the last one year, the price of yarn increased by 64% or more. The cost of each kilogram of acrylic yarn moved from Rs 170 in September 2020 to now Rs 280. PC Yarn which, one of the commonest raw material, went from Rs 150 to Rs 240 in the same interval, while cotton yarn blew up from Rs 250 to Rs 300.”

But in the wake of huge rise in the cases of Covid-19, the demand for allowing the persons below the age of 45 years to get vaccinated is rising. According to businessmen, a large number of workers and entrepreneurs are below the age of 45 years and, given their work profile of meeting large number of people daily, they need to be vaccinated at the earliest. Speaking on the issue, Hemant Abbi, executive member of the Moti Nagar United Factory Association, said, “There is steep rise in the cases and fatalities too are increasing day by day. Increase in yarn rates leaves garment inc in knotty situation | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The rapid rise in the rates of yarn is hitting the garment and textile industry hard, as it has led to an increase in their production cost. According to businessmen, the rate has increased by 30% to 40% and if both the Centre and the state government did not intervene at the earliest, they would be in dire straits. Hemant Abbi, executive member of the Moti Nagar United Factory Association, said, “The rate of yarn used in shawl manufacturing has increased by more than Rs 150 per kg in the past few months. Acrylic yarn, which is mostly used by our industry, earlier cost Rs 240-Rs 250 per kg, but now its price has shot up to Rs 370 per kg. Despite such huge increase in our cost of production, we have not increased the rates of our products and are absorbing the losses rather than passing them on to our customers. Our repeated attempts to convince the yarn manufacturers to drop the rates have failed. They blame the rise on the increase in the rate of the raw material used b

FM fails to impress garment industry, leaves it confused | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The textile and garment industry is not in a happy mood as is the engineering sector. Despite finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman claiming to have given relief to the sector by announcing seven mega textile parks in the country and reducing basic customs duty rates on nylon fibre and yarn, caprolactam and nylon chips to 5%, the businessmen said it was too early to say if these decisions were in their favour. However, they were of the opinion that overall it was a satisfactory Budget, though their sector was neglected and concrete steps should have been taken to address their problems.
