Hackney mayor speaks about upcoming budget

However, Mayor Glanville says the savings made will not get in the way of Hackney’s commitment to rebuild a better borough during the pandemic. He said the council will not close services, just reform them to run more efficiently, and vowed it will continue to invest in areas of need and hardship, as well as “some of the most vulnerable people in our borough”. Savings will be made in various areas, including £540,000 in children and families services, £332,000 in Hackney education, £1.6m in adult services and £217 000 in public health. For example, some services supporting people with “higher-level needs” could, the council believes, be better served, and funded in “a more collaborative way” with the local NHS.

Hackney council debates domestic violence charity premises

Ngozi said the charity’s client base has increased by 500 per cent. According to ONS data (2016), approximately 34,000 women and girls in Hackney have experienced domestic abuse in their lives.  Hackney s domestic abuse intervention service supported 154 survivors this month, with 51 describing themselves as African, Caribbean, Black or of mixed heritage. Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville and cabinet members emphasised the work the administration has done to end violence against women and girls and wished to move forward and work together to support survivors.  The mayor said the charity has been treated with “equity and respect” by the council, adding: “Sistah Space has not been evicted. They agreed to leave on that date and they have done so.”

JN Investigation: For months they ve broken every rule in the book

THE ALLEGATIONS A source intimately involved in the Orthodox wedding scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “These illegal weddings have been going on for 10 months. We’re not talking about one or two. We are talking multiple weddings every day. All have 150-200 guests. At one wedding the bride was Covid-positive.” THE VENUES There are four venues that are used regularly, several sources confirmed – “anything that has a hall”. One is the taxpayer-funded Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls’ School in Stamford Hill. “It’s the one that was caught,” said one person. The school’s long-time principal, Rabbi Avroham Pinter, died from Covid-19 last spring. The new principal is his son, Chaim, who became a director of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations in July last year.
