Police unsuccessfully try to stop robbery
PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, March 18, 2009) – Residents of Mt Hagen city in Western Highlands province were rudely awoken by a pre-dawn gun battle as police tried in vain to prevent two retail outlets from being robbed by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday.
The gunfight, which lasted for several minutes, had residents living near Hagen Kofi and Highlander Hotel diving under their beds for cover, in fear of getting hit by stray bullets from the exchange of gunfire between police and heavily armed criminals.
