Showtime at UWI Chapel despite COVID - Virtual carol service dazzles viewers

The much-anticipated, decades-old Kingston Christmas tradition of the annual University Singers carol service took place last Sunday at the University Chapel, at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus. The festival of nine lessons and carols was viewed live by hundreds on YouTube, and it has subsequently been already enjoyed online by a global audience of over 20,000 music lovers, faithfuls, and past and present members and friends of the university’s worldwide community. This event has been jam-packed as far back as memory recalls, from the 70s, and securing a seat required early arrival. This year was radically different. COVID-19 dictated the protocols of the service and how the music was presented. But despite the pandemic, the event found its largest audience ever, and it dazzled with great fanfare, serving up a magical blend of bible readings and Christmas carols, telling the story of the birth of Christ.

Focus on the REAL reason for the season: The birth of Christ

Near the end, Linus reminds us that the birth of Jesus is what Christmas is all about. Today, I’m looking at some comments about Christmas from three of my “heroes of the faith” who saw Christ as “the reason for the season” before somebody coined that catch phrase. Let’s go in chronological order: John Wesley (1703-1791) United Methodist Professor David Watson wrote in 2016 that while many Christmas sermons focus on the Golden Rule, giving and being kind – our relationships with others – Methodist founder John Wesley stressed the transformation that Christ’s coming to Earth made possible in each life.

Heissatopia: 2020 Christmas Recital

2020 Christmas Recital I m trying really hard to not be sad that we filmed our entire recital on grid mode.so instead of a beautiful full-picture view of our recital we captured everything. It s fun, I suppose, that we ll get to watch our audience s reaction (since we couldn t see them from where we were performing) but.it s simply not the finished product I d hoped for. Luckily we filmed our dress rehearsal this afternoon, so we have that.  I m still not pleased that I m still half in pyjamas ( dress rehearsal, Nancy, come on!) and there were a few other mishaps that we ironed out before the recital (as well as a few that we did
