EVANSVILLE, Ind. The Ohio River continued rising Thursday, reaching the Evansville flood stage of 42 feet a day earlier than expected, covering low-lying areas and closing many area roads.
Just above Henderson, the river had reached 36.78 feet by early Thursday afternoon, causing the Henderson County Road Department to close and barricade a dozen roads.
Nearly as many roads were closed as of midday Thursday in Vanderburgh County.
In Warrick and Posey counties, the river was already well above flood levels. At noon Thursday, it was over 45 feet at the Newburgh Dam seven feet over flood stage. It was just over 40 feet at Mount Vernon, which is five feet above flood stage there.
HENDERSON — An overnight snowfall on Thursday dumped an estimated 3 to 4 inches of powder on the Henderson area, triggering scattered power outages and traffic accidents.
