Volunteers are often seen as the glue that holds a community together, contributing both their time and efforts to make a difference.
National Volunteer Week (NVW), which runs from April 18 to April 24, acknowledges the valuable work these volunteers bring to their communities,
Volunteer Dufferin, a project developed by Headwaters Communities in Action that helps connect volunteers and organizations together, is one of the many local organizations giving their thanks to volunteers this week.
“It’s always important to acknowledge volunteers in our community. They’re unsung heroes and they don’t do it for the praise,” said Jennifer Payne, executive director of Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA).

A local program is providing healthy and local meals for students through various programs in the community of Dufferin and Caledon.
The Headwaters Local Food Club is one of the Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance’s (HFFA) Farm to School programs. Parents as well as staff can sign up for a membership which will allow them to receive a “meal-in-a-bag”, which are delivered to the students at their school for them to take home.
HFFA is supported through their registered charity, Headwaters Communities in Action.
All meals are locally sourced from different distributors in the Headwaters region.

Four Dufferin-Caledon non-profits are benefitting from COVID-19 help in the form of provincial dollars.
With the onset of the global pandemic, the Ontario Trillium Foundation launched the Resilient Communities Fund to invest in community-based initiatives that were left struggling by COVID-19.
Caledon Community Services received over $94,000, Headwaters Arts was given almost $139,000, Fiddlehead Care Farm got over $64,000 and Headwaters Communities in Action was awarded over $76,000.
