COVID story unfairly attacks restaurant owner

I read the recent article “Cancun Mexican Restaurant violated COVID-19 requirements, state says, forcing one-week closure,” April 14, 2021. While I understand from the article there were patrons and security who did not adhere to state public health guidelines, I was appalled by the blatant character assassination engaged in by your reporter and apparently approved of by your editor before the story went to print. This was done by referencing an unrelated 2014 judicial matter, for which the business owner paid his debt to society. While I can understand that in researching the archives for the current story this remote historical matter was found, I take great issue with the grafting of this unrelated matter to the current story.

WATERVILLE Cancun Mexican Restaurant is in the midst of a one-week closure for flaunting COVID-19 requirements and creating “an imminent health hazard” for patrons and employees. The seven-day suspension runs until April 20 at 10 a.m.
A state health inspector issued a COVID-19 imminent health hazard finding Monday to the Silver Street restaurant, according to documents obtained by the Morning Sentinel. Cancun staff were observed not wearing face coverings, and the restaurant failed to quarantine a sick employee from its workforce while awaiting test results.
“Patrons not seated, allowed to wander and mingle,” the suspension read. “This behavior is encouraged by removal of bar stools and dining tables, which is in direct violation of the DECD Seated Food and Drink Service checklist.”
Popular Waterville Restaurant Shut Down For Covid-19 Violations
A popular Waterville watering hole & restaurant, Cancun Mexican Restaurant on Silver Street was forced to close by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for causing an imminent health hazard for not following Maine State Covid-19 regulations according to an article by centralmaine.com.
The restaurant was required to close abruptly yesterday (4/13/21) and is required to stay closed for a seven day suspension that will run through 4/20/21 at 10am.
According to the article, Waterville Police witnessed employees of the Cancun Mexican Restaurant not wearing face masks, and also not requiring customers going into the establishment to wear face masks.
