Santa Fe-based Parting Stone’s novel technology to turn cremated ashes into beautiful, solidified remains is rapidly gaining ground in the “deathcare” industry. The company, which launched in fall 2019, offers people a better way to connect with departed loved ones, turning ashes into smooth, polished memorial stones that can be held, shared or displayed, said Parting Stone founder and CEO Justin Crowe. The company now partners with 340 funeral homes across the country to offer solidification services to families who plan to create remains. That’s up from about 200 funeral partners last fall.

Southwest resumes Houston Bush Intercontinental after 16-year absence

Southwest Airlines has relaunched service from Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) for the first time in 16 years, opening nonstop routes to five destinations. The carrier, which is the dominant airline at Houston William P. Hobby (HOU), located some 38 km away from IAH, operated its inaugural flights on April 12. A total of 15 daily departures will be offered from IAH’s Terminal A across five routes to Chicago Midway (MDW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Denver (DEN), Nashville (BNA) and New Orleans (MSY). “Airline expansions like this are important to global air service hubs like Houston,” Houston Airports director Mario Diaz said. “As we recover from the pandemic, safety of our passengers will remain our top priority. Partners like Southwest will ensure that as we rebuild and recover, we are building forward better.”

Spirit expands from LAX, adds third Mexican destination

Spirit Airlines will launch its first international services from Los Angeles International (LAX) this summer as the carrier steps up its expansion from the Californian airport.  The ULCC will offer flights between LAX and Los Cabos International (SJD) in Mexico from May 5, followed by service to Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International (PVR) from July 1. Both leisure routes will be operated daily. Puerto Vallarta, a resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast known for its beaches, water sports and nightlife, will become the third destination in Mexico to be served by Spirit. The carrier already serves Cancun (CUN) from 12 US destinations and Los Cabos from two.
