Districts Through Spirit Card Program
(Huron, South Dakota – March 8 20, 2021) – American Bank & Trust strives to make a positive and lasting impact on communities. One way the bank accomplishes this is through their Spirit Card program. These Debit Cards promote school pride and generate income for school districts.
A Spirit Card is a Debit Card that showcases the school district’s name, colors and mascot. The card is linked to a customer’s checking account and when account holder make a purchase with their Spirit Card, American Bank & Trust donates money back to the school.
The bank recently donated $5,026.62to the Huron School District. These funds will be used to buy a variety of items including creation of a sensory walk pathway at Madison Elementary, athletic training equipment for students with injuries that are doing rehab, gifts and rewards that will be used during March Madness Reading Challenge at Washington Elementary, cheer and dance workshop registration fee

We have heard the thoughts this week from the next Huron School District superintendent, Dr Kraig Steinhoff. He is currently superintendent at Oakes ND school district. Dr Steinhoff spoke of transitioning from the Oakes district to Huron with some of the similarities and differences in place. In terms of student enrollment he spoke of a study that he had been involved with concerning enrollment projections.
A change within the leadership of the Huron School district is approaching. Day three in a series call Meet Dr Steinhoff. The incoming superintendent for the Huron School system Graduated from Northwestern high school in Mellette and from USD in Vermillion. He has served at Superintendent in Oakes, ND school district for 5 years. Prior to that he directed the SE Regional Technology center in North Dakota
Just under one year ago with the onset of Coronavirus, schools were challenged. Steinhoff talks about the experience with Covid at the Oakes School system.

Another segment of Meet Dr Steinhoff. His contract as the next Huron School Superintendent was approved at the February 15 th special board meeting. Along with fulfilling the current responsibilities as Oakes, ND Superintendent, Dr Steinhoff will be getting continually updates on the Huron School District and viewing Huron School board meetings online to continue learning his future role. Steinhoff said that he has learned parts of the position even through the interview stage.
