The Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Road and Water Infrastructure Agency responsible for managing traffic around port terminals, are completing the final phase of their Brexit preparations. Buffer parking areas have been created in Rotterdam and IJmuiden for trucks not ready to cross the border into the UK.
Preparations for the upcoming Brexit are particularly evident on the roads around Rotterdam and IJmuiden.
The regions, port authorities, customs and inspectorates, are all working hard to make freight transport as smooth as possible in future. This is extremely important because, thanks to our carriers, important goods arrive at their destination, also in the times of the coronavirus pandemic,â comments Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, the Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management.

Not driving home for Christmas; Dutch residents stranded in Britain by travel ban

The Dutch foreign ministry has been inundated with calls from Dutch nationals and foreign residents stranded in the UK by the travel ban imposed since Sunday.
On a normal Sunday, the ministry’s 24/7 contact centre’s phone rings some 330 times but this Sunday the total shot up to 800, and a further 700 people asked for help via email and message services, the AD reported on Tuesday.
Most of the callers, the AD said, are in a panic about getting back to the Netherlands for Christmas.

With immediate effect, ferries coming to the Netherlands from the United Kingdom are no longer allowed to carry passengers. The ferries are still permitted access to the ports of Rotterdam and IJmuiden with trucks and drivers.
The mayors of Rotterdam and IJmuiden took this decision during the evening of Sunday 20 December at the request of Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management.
No access to port of Rotterdam for passengers from England
With immediate effect, ferries coming to the Netherlands from the United Kingdom are no longer allowed to carry passengers. The ferries are still permitted access to the ports of Rotterdam and IJmuiden with trucks and drivers.
The mayors of Rotterdam and IJmuiden took this decision during the evening of Sunday 20 December at the request of Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management. The Dutch Cabinet has imposed this measure to further restrict travel from the United Kingdom, where a more contagious new strain of the COVID-19 virus is spreading. The ban relates to all Dutch ports served by ferry services from the United Kingdom: Rotterdam, Hoek van Holland, Vlaardingen and IJmuiden. The shipping companies have been informed of this decision. The measure is being imposed with immediate effect. This means that the ferries may no longer depart for the Netherlands with passengers on board. As far as
