Kaohsiung prosecutors on Tuesday said they had decided against charging a supporter of former Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) with defamation.
Wecare Kaohsiung founder Aaron Yin (尹立) who had organized Han’s recall drive accused YouTuber Chen Pin-hung (陳品宏) of defamation after Chen burned a paper altar that was covered in pictures of Yin with the eyes blacked out during a livestream.
Yin said Chen made false accusations about him during the stream, and took money from viewers who paid to watch the altar being burned while he cursed Yin.

In a defamation lawsuit arising from a feud between players in an online role-playing game, the Kaohsiung District Court on May 20 acquitted the defendant on the grounds that the insults and name calling were targeting a fictional character, not a real person.
On May 22 last year, the defendant, surnamed Lai (賴), was playing Lineage M a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) with a medieval storyline on his cellphone with other gamers.

High Court upholds verdict on dad who made kids kneel

The High Court on Wednesday upheld a guilty verdict against a Keelung man who made two of his children kneel in public with placards bearing humiliating remarks.
The court found the man, surnamed Chang (張), guilty of coercion and sentenced him to 20 days in prison, which is commutable to a NT$20,000 fine.
Chang in November last year made his son and daughter kneel in a busy public garage at the city’s main bus station, holding up pieces of paper saying: “I am a beggar,” the court said.

I arrived in Kaohsiung’s Gangshan District (岡山) hoping to learn about shadow puppetry, and left with a renewed respect for this often-overlooked town.
Kaohsiung Museum of Shadow Puppets (高雄市皮影戲館) is part of Gangshan Cultural Center (岡山文化中心). The museum, which has been revised and repaired since it first opened in 1994, currently occupies part of the first floor. While far from huge, it does provide a decent introduction in Chinese and English.
