The rescue helicopter flew two injured montainbikers to Nelson Hospital on Saturday.
Mountain bikers from Nelson and the West Coast were picked up by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter after they suffered injuries in separate incidents on Saturday. Pilot Euan Stratford said the rescue helicopter was called out to Sharlands Creek in the Hira Forest at 1pm on Saturday after a 55-year-old man came off his mountainbike. He suffered injuries to his head and shoulder and was flown to Nelson Hospital. Almost immediately after that, the rescue helicopter was called to the West Coast, near Karamea, after a 45-year-old woman came off her bike and dislocated her shoulder, just south of the Heaphy Hut.
