Higher premium
The premium, or the amount of money you pay to get the insurance coverage, depends on a variety of factors, including but not limited to your age, geographic location, type of policy, body mass index, medical history and any pre-existing conditions. This is why when applying for an insurance coverage, pregnant women have to pay a higher premium.
“The insurer has all the right to charge an additional premium after they know of the pregnancy and the coverage will be provided as per the policy, which has been the case here,” Motwani added.

Premiums will go up in 2021 and also in the next couple of years, industry executives say
Health insurance premiums in the UAE have gone up since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, as residents become more cautious about their health.
The industry executives forecast that premiums are expected to go up further this year as well as over the next couple of years.
Anas Mistareehi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Al Wathba National Insurance, said many health and life insurance companies increased premiums on their insurance plans last year by up to 20 per cent.
Dubai: When a UAE resident’s visa is cancelled, does the health insurance policy get cancelled with it as well? This was the query raised by a Gulf News reader, whose husband is planning to move jobs within the UAE.
The reader asked: “I am under my husband’s sponsorship and seven months pregnant at the moment. My husband got another job offer, so I would like to know if my health insurance would stay valid if the current company cancels my husband’s visa and my visa gets cancelled, too. As it will be my due date soon, there may not be enough time to get new the visa in place. I would also like to know if I have to apply for a new health insurance policy after getting the new visa or if I can continue with the current health insurance cover.”
