Halton Regional Police are raising the alarm bells about domestic assaults after seeing intimate partner violence-related charges jump by more than 140% last month compared to a year ago when the pandemic first struck.
And if the disturbing trend continues, police estimate officers will end up responding to more than 4,000 “intimate partner violence” (IPV) calls in Halton Region this year.

“What is particularly concerning is that we recognize that all forms of family violence are under-reported,” police said in a statement release Wednesday, suggesting the number of incidents is likely higher.
