GRAND FORKS The pandemic hasn’t been easy for anyone. But for those in the beer business or wine, or spirits, or anything with alcohol it’s been an especially strange year.
Matt Winjum, co-owner of Grand Forks’ Rhombus Guys Brewing Company, has watched his supply chain swing wildly since last March. When the pandemic struck, business cratered, as customers stayed out of bars and restaurants. But then, as months passed, things started changing.

Construction in Grand Forks, including several large developments, has continued throughout the pandemic and several new businesses are expected to open in 2021.
The developments range from new medical facilities, a retirement home, new apartment and office buildings to restaurants. The developments are concentrated in and around downtown and on the south end of Grand Forks, and represent what former long-serving Mayor Mike Brown called a “billion-dollar boom” for the city.

The Alerus Center, which opened in February 2001, has hit the 20-year mark in offering the greater Grand Forks Community entertainment options, as well as being an economic driver for the region.
Over the course of its 20-year history, the Alerus Center has hosted a wide variety of events including weddings, UND athletic games, commencements, conventions, family shows and meetings. Since opening the doors in 2001, the building has welcomed more than 5 million visitors at over 7,000 events.
