Holland native suing Holland Police Department over records bill
HOLLAND A former Holland resident is suing the Holland Police Department to lower the cost of documents she requested.
Sarah Sterken Jackson, an attorney in New York, spent half of 2020 back home in Holland. During that time, she said she “learned of allegations that there were instances of HPD police officers acting in a racially biased manner,” according to the lawsuit complaint.
After hearing of these allegations, Jackson stated she began an “investigation” into whether there were police officers acting in a racially biased manner.
In October 2020, Jackson filed a Freedom of Information Act request, asking the police department for “documents relating to policing and oversight,” including the following items:

HOLLAND, Texas â More than half the population of the town of Holland was still without power Friday afternoon after dozens of trees fell on power lines during Thursday night s winter storm.
According to ONCOR s power outage map, 964 outages were recorded in the area in and surrounding the small town. Holland s total population is close to 1,500 people, according to U.S. Census estimates.

HOLLAND, Mich. â Two people were stuck in their home at 205 West 9
th Street at 9:54 a.m. today.
One call from a concerned person led the Holland Fire Department to dispatch a team to the residence, believing there were people trapped inside the burning home.
Units arrived at the home at 9:58 a.m., learning that two occupants were assisted to safely while a dog was still missing. The pet was found at a window on the second floor, and was promptly rescued.
The fire was under control 15 minutes after the firefighters arrived. The fire remains under investigation by the departmentâs Fire Marshal however initial findings indicate that the cause was unintentional.
