FocusMaine and Educate Maine on Thursday announced the Equity in Internships Program for students who are Black, Indigenous or people of color (BIPOC).
It aims to build on the success of the Maine Career Catalyst summer internship program by creating opportunities for students of color with the skills but not the financial means to get a running start on a future career, and to bring greater diversity to Maine s workforce.
The Equity in Internships Program, an initiative of the Maine Career Catalyst partnership between FocusMaine and Educate Maine, was created from a $50,000 grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation to reduce barriers that have prevented students of color from accessing internships that pave the way to careers.
Chicopee shifting COVID vaccine appointments at regional site: Mobile vaccine bus to visit city this week

CHICOPEE – The Regional Vaccine Site at the Castle of Knights is shifting the Thursday vaccine appointments to allow the site to run more efficiently.
About 20 appointments will be changed. People who had an appointment are being contacted and will be offered priority booking for the week of May 27 or any available appointment for Wednesday. The site, which is open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Memorial Drive, will also be offering vaccinations to walk-ups on Wednesday as long as doses are available, said Bobbi Mabb, mayoral communications director.

Holyoke, Chicopee roll out COVID vaccine bus

HOLYOKE – When the COVID-19 vaccine bus arrived, Maria and Gilberto Vargas and other members of their church were ready to step aboard.
The couple was among more than 120 people who were vaccinated on Thursday when Holyoke Health Center and Tufts Health Plan – Harvard Pilgrim Health unveiled the area’s first mobile clinic at Veteran’s Park on Maple Street.
The couple, who live in Springfield, learned about the free, walk-up clinic on Wednesday from a congregation member.
“A customer passed the information to her and she passed it to us and we passed it to all the brothers and sisters in the congregation,” said Vargas, adding her husband is the pastor of Jehova Tsidkenu in Chicopee. “A few of them have come already. We want the congregation to be safe.”
