(Kiran Singh) If you had visited the three-block strip of Vancouver s Main Street between East 48th and East 51st avenues a couple of decades ago, your senses would have been overwhelmed with the aroma of sandalwood, the bright colours of Punjabi suits hanging from storefronts, the sounds of Indian and Pakistani music blasting on radios, and sidewalks full of people. But once the South Asian community started moving south of the Fraser River, many businesses followed, diluting the vibrancy of Vancouver s Punjabi Market. Today only a handful South Asian stores remain but efforts to rejuvenate this once bustling business hub are underway.

99-year-old Harbans Kaur after taking the Covid vaccine jab. LUDHIANA: Showing full faith in the Covid-19 vaccine, 99-year-old Harbans Kaur on Monday got vaccinated in Ludhiana at a special camp being organised by United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) on Gill Road. Her son Nirmal Singh (66) also got vaccinated. After getting vaccinated, Harbans Kaur urged the residents to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. She said that she was feeling completely fine after vaccination and \everyone should go for vaccination if we want to weed out Covid-19 from the society. Her son Nirmal Singh said that his mother always wanted to get vaccinated and had no hesitation when was told about getting vaccinated. “I want to tell everyone that Covid-19 vaccination is completely safe and all people should get themselves vaccinated at the earliest,” he said.

Asda announce plans for second in-store vaccination centre

SUPERMARKET giant Asda has confirmed plans to host a second Covid-19 vaccination centre. Asda, which has transformed the George clothing department at the store to accommodate the vaccination centre operating from 8am to 8pm to deliver 240 jabs per day, said a second larger vaccination centre will open in Watford, Hertfordshire, next week. The supermarket group, owned by Blackburn s Issa brothers, opened its first in-store jab service at a supermarket near Birmingham. Asda said the new facility at its Watford superstore will have capacity to deliver 3,500 vaccines a week. Trained pharmacy staff began delivering vaccinations at Asda’s Cape Hill branch in Smethwick, Sandwell, earlier today (January 28).
