22 new virus cases, 19 people recover

Article by Social Share The Ministry of Health and Wellness said twenty-two new people tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Barbados on Saturday, January 30, 2021. They were identified from among the 785 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on that day. Nineteen people were reported as recovered, and were discharged from isolation. The island now has 375 active cases. The 22 new positive cases comprise 12 women and ten men. Five of these people were previously sent to the Harrison Point Isolation Facility for assessment. The 17 other cases are all Barbadian nationals. The total number of people diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 362. Of these, 355 have recovered and the remaining seven inmates are included in the active cases.

Barbados records two COVID-19 deaths within 24 hours

Today Barbados recorded the first double death from COVID-19 within a 24 hour period. Both deceased were patients of the Harrison Point Isolation Facility for a few days. The two Barbadians, a 55-year-old male and a 64-year-old female, died within an hour of each other this morning.  Dr Corey Forde, infectious diseases specialist and the consultant in charge of Harrison Point, noted the similarities between the two cases. Both patients suffered from pre-existing, chronic non-communicable diseases. Both were experiencing shortness of breath for some days before seeking medical help at the Accident and Emergency Department (AED) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

26 new COVID cases, 27 recoveries

Barbados recorded 26 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, January 25, while 27 people recovered from the viral illness. The number of active cases on the island now stands at 360. This is a significant reduction, reflecting an additional number of discharges being recorded for January after an audit was done, the Barbados Government Information Service said in a release.
