Hamilton County Schools Announce New Principals Monday, May 10, 2021 Hamilton County Schools announced several personnel updates Monday.
Andrea Johnson is the new principal at Barger Academy. She previously served as the principal at Lakeside Academy, a Level 5 school.
Ms. Johnson, a 26-year veteran of Hamilton County Schools, first joined the district as a teacher and taught for 13 years. In 2008, she moved to the district level as a secondary literacy coordinator, and later served as assistant principal at both Woodmore Elementary School and Lakeside Academy. Ms. Johnson has been the principal at Lakeside Academy since 2014, where she started a Destination Imagination class to engage students in STEM challenges, creativity, and collaboration. She is the recipient of an Annenberg Foundation Grant (2017), and made it to the Global Finals of the first Destination Imagination Competition (2015-2016).

David Cory will be the new principal at East Ridge Elementary School. He previously served as assistant principal at Harrison Elementary School and has 20 years of experience in education.
Prior to joining Hamilton County Schools, Mr. Cory served as a principal for nearly 10 years in California. Before he became a principal, he was an assistant principal, taught elementary school for nine years, coached basketball as well as track, and led several technology initiatives.
Mr. Cory is passionate about motivating staff, students, and school communities to seek excellence, engage in a high-quality education, develop with integrity, and emerge as highly equipped citizens who are prepared to take on the challenges of the future.

A surge of COVID-19 cases forces quarantine of 700 students in the Central Oregon district
Oregon Health Authority reported COVID-19 cases at a handful of Portland schools this week, including an elementary school with five infections.
The latest weekly reported released by the state shows Harrison Elementary School in Southeast Portland had five reported cases among students over the past four weeks, with the most recent case reported April 22. It s unclear whether the infections happened at school or off campus.
Aside from Harrison Elementary, Portland Public Schools also had individual cases at Grant High School on April 22 and just this week, two more cases were reported at Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School in Southwest Portland. Those cases have yet to be included in the OHA weekly report.
