TIGO Green for Kili campaign which seeks to plant over 28,000 trees at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro to restore its virginity and help reclaim its thawing ice cap has received 7,000 tree seedlings from Helios Towers Tanzania Limited.
AS the country’s market economy maintains sustained growth, Tanzania Federation of Co-operatives is gathering documentary evidence to pressure the state give back its properties which was nationalised in early 1980s.
Three people are presumed dead, and nearly 4,000 have been displaced due to flooding after
heavy rains pounded Weru-Weru and Masama wards in Hai District in the past few days.
The three people were in a family vehicle that was washed away by floods following a heavy rainfall, which hit the district on April 21 and swept away the Namwi river banks.
District officials say efforts to recover their bodies were still ongoing.
Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Anna Mnghwira said yesterday that the floods have destroyed nearly 700 homes, leaving over 4,000 people homeless. The rains have left us with many damages, with thousands of people homeless and some of the bridges were flooded as a result of the destruction at the Namwi river banks, the Regional Commissioner said.

SOME of the country’s top chief executive officers and managing directors are rallying behind their peer, Simon Karikari, the CEO of Tigo Tanzania in donating trees to support the telecommunications company’s campaign targeting to plant 28,000 trees around Africa’s rooftop.

“I am honoured to donate 100 trees in addition to the 10,000 trees already donated by Tigo Tanzania,” said Karikari after joining forces with his company to back the campaign which has since lured top CEO and MDs in the country.
