Facebook s Use Of WhatsApp Data Is Subject Of Irish Probe
Law360 (July 15, 2021, 10:02 PM EDT) The European Union s data protection authorities on Thursday directed their colleague in Ireland to investigate how Facebook uses personal information from its WhatsApp subsidiary, although they rejected a request by a German regulator to immediately ban Facebook from processing that data.
The Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information announced in May that he had issued an order that would be effective for three months to prohibit Facebook from processing personal data from WhatsApp for its own purpose, in the wake of an update to WhatsApp s terms of use and privacy policy that the regulator alleged granted the messaging service far-reaching.
