(WHCU) – An Ithaca man allegedly flees deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office before crashing his car and being placed under arrest. Just before 5 pm Monday deputies stopped a 2003 gray Mercedes on Warren Road for not having insurance. The driver was identified as 42 year-old Umar Chatman. Deputies report they smelled marijuana coming from the car, at which point Chatman allegedly put the car into drive and fled. Shortly after, the crashed vehicle was located at the intersection of Warren and Hanshaw Road it struck another vehicle, the operator suffered minor injuries.
