Hattiesburg Courage mural features Jesse L Brown, military heroes

The Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art unveiled its first project of 2021 Friday. Titled Courage, the new mural is located adjacent to Veterans Memorial Park. The piece honors acts of courage exhibited throughout Hattiesburg’s history. The mural is the work of Pine Belt artist River Prince. Measuring 18 feet tall and 115 feet wide, the design features the seals of all five U.S. military branches and is the largest mural in Hattiesburg. Veterans Memorial Park is a sacred space which remembers the courage of all who have served in defense of our nation, particularly the 173 individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mayor Toby Barker said in a media release. “ Courage is a fitting artistic addition to the park, as it honors the people and institutions that gave our community its strength and character.
