THE boss of The Broadway shopping centre believes “Bradford’s time is coming” – despite the setbacks of the pandemic. As the shutters were drawn down in March last year and silence descended over city centres, the already beleaguered high street was to be hit hard. Recent analysis from the Local Data Company found that up to 70 shopping centres across the UK could be forced to close as the impact of the pandemic continues to impact the retail sector. The Broadway’s footfall is around 30 per cent down from 2019 and general manager Ian Ward says it is a “challenging market”. “When you see all the articles in the news about how challenging it is on the high street and around shopping centres, it is true, nobody can hide from that,” he said.
LUXURY dessert and gourmet burger restaurant Haute Dolci will open its doors tomorrow, it has been confirmed. The latest addition to The Broadway shopping centre has created 25 local jobs including waiting staff, chefs and front of house. It will hold a three-day launch event from tomorrow until May 23. Customers can book a limited five-course tasting menu across the three days or enter the competition on Haute Dolci’s social media to find a ‘loyalty key’. Ian Ward, General Manager of The Broadway, Bradford, said: “We are delighted to welcome yet another exciting addition to The Broadway dining portfolio - Haute Dolci marks our 23rd venue to grow what is already an impressive array of eateries at the centre.
BRADFORD had its busiest week since the pandemic took hold as restrictions eased and shoppers rushed back to the city centre. April 12 saw shutters roll up and life take a step closer to ‘normality’ as non-essential retail, plus salons, gyms and the hospitality sector, were given the go-ahead to re-open after months of closure due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Jonny Noble, manager of the Bradford Business Improvement District, said footfall in the city centre was more than double that of the previous week.
