Wallick Communities is nearing completion of the rehab. Vice President of Development Alexis Dunfee said bringing the apartments up to snuff has taken four years and $19.7 million. We were able to address some of those things that as operators and managers of this, we d say, Time out, this is a life-safety issue, right? Dunfee said. So wiring, windows that weren t meeting egress, doors that were falling off the hinges kind of situation, where people couldn t even lock their front door.

Vaccinations at Peoria-area nursing homes to begin late December, early January
PEORIA About 1,260 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have already been administered to frontline workers since the vaccine arrived in Central Illinois Tuesday, and vaccinations at area nursing homes will likely start in the last week of December.
“The goal is that, in the last week of December, they will start rolling out across the state and really pick up speed in the first part of January,” Monica Hendrickson, the Peoria City/County Health Department administrator, said during a press conference Thursday.
Peoria man sentenced to 45 years in prison for strangulation murder
PEORIA A 37-year-old Peoria man was sentenced Thursday to 45 years in prison for strangling another man early in 2019.
Anthony Bennett, 37, must serve 100% of his prison term, making it a virtual life sentence as he will be 81 when he is scheduled to be released from custody.
Bennett pleaded guilty at a hearing in Peoria County Circuit Judge John Vespa s courtroom to one count of first-degree murder.
On Feb. 4, 2019, Ramon White was found by his sister, who had stopped his apartment at the Hurlburt House to check on him.
White, prosecutors have said, had been stabbed after he lost consciousness or after he died. He had first been beaten and strangled. At one point, a back scratcher was thrust down his throat by Bennett.
