Court rejects regulator complaint over Admiral Markets fine annulment

A has rejected an appeal by the Financial Supervision Authority (Finantsinspektsioon) to reinstate a fine on online investment trading firm Admiral Markets. The second-tier Tallinn Circuit Court upheld a decision by Harju County Court to revoke a fine the Finantsinspektsioon issued to Admiral Markets AS in February, for what it called non-compliance with the Securities Market Act. The issues followed the aftermath of the crash of crude oil futures prices in April 2020, Admiral Markets had told the Tallinn Stock Exchange, but rejected the Finantsinspektsioon decision and claimed that it had always acted in the best interests of its clients and operated in accordance with the regulatory framework even when faced with unusual circumstances such as the crude oil futures price crash.

Court hands long jail sentence to man who caused deadly Laagna tee crash

On Monday, the Tallinn-based Harju County Court handed a long jail sentence to Isa Khalilov who caused an accident that killed two people and injured several others on Laagna tee on June 20 last year. The court handed 20-year-old Khalilov a 10-year prison sentence and his fellow accused, 29-year-old Vjatseslav Kalasnikov, a three-year prison sentence. North District Prosecutor Diana Helila said in late April said that the guilt of Khalilov and Kalasnikov in causing a road accident with grave consequences has been proven and that they should each be handed a 12-year prison sentence. The prosecutor also requested that Kalasnikov be deprived of his driver s license for three years. Khalilov cannot be deprived of his license as he has never been issued one.

Prosecutor seeking long sentence for accused in deadly Laagna Road crash

Diana Helila, the prosecutor in charge of the criminal proceedings in an accident that killed two people and injured several others on Laagna Road on June last year, sought a long prison sentence for the two accused, 20-year-old Isa Khalilov and 29-year-old Vjatseslav Kalasnikov, in Harju County Court on Tuesday. Helila said that the guilt of Khalilov and Kalasnikov in causing a road accident with grave consequences has been proven and that they should each be handed a 12-year prison sentence. Defense lawyers Vladimir Sadekov and Dmitri Skoljar will also present their arguments, after which Khalilov and Kalasnikov will be able to use their right of final rebuttal. The court will subsequently schedule the announcement of the judgement.
