Having dabbled in horror before with the superb Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright is making a fully-fledged return to the genre with his new psychological thriller, Last Night In Soho.
With a superb cast that s led by Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, the first trailer is a wonderful showcase of Wright s unique combination of visual flair and pop-culture references.

Last Night in Soho, in which she s dressed the part of a 60s fashion icon caught in a mysterious, trippy, time-traveling game of cat and mouse.
The movie s first teaser trailer introduces us to Ellie (
Jojo Rabbit breakout Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie), an aspiring fashion designer living in modern-day London who is mysteriously able to transport back to the 1960s. That s where she meets
or becomes? her idol, glamorous songstress Sandie (Taylor-Joy, who soundtracks the teaser with a crooning cover of Downtown. )
Terence Stamp, and
Rita Tushingham. While plot details about the psychological thriller remain intentionally vague, we do know that the story involves a modern-day girl named Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) having some sort of connection with a 1960s woman named Sandy, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.
In an interview with Empire, Wright revealed that he had almost switched the two actresses while casting for Eloise and Sandy. “I saw
Split, and Anya plays an innocent girl who gets thrown into a situation,” Wright said. “I thought, ‘Maybe she’s played Eloise. Maybe she should be Sandy. ” Of McKenzie, Wright added: “She’s so young and fragile that the film is going to be twice as scary.”
Shaun of the Dead, he’s tried his hand at action (

Last Night in Soho focuses on a woman (played by Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie) who somehow is able to travel back to 1960s London. The trailer doesn’t give away too much of the plot, but its visual style evokes the look of British and Italian horror films of that period. Watch it below:
Wright’s work is typically marked by its genre deconstructions and sly metatextual humor; his best movies manage to make fun of and celebrate movie cliches all at once.
