Wheat production expected to be at record 115 mn tonne: IIWBR

New Delhi, Feb 17 : The Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR) has estimated wheat production at a record 115 million tonnes this year, which is around seven per cent more than last year. Experts say that the weather is favourable for the Rabi season crops and farmers have taken a lot of interest in wheat sowing.
Interestingly, farmers have been sitting on a sit-in demonstration for almost three months on the borders of Delhi, yet farming has not been affected.

Chandigarh, Feb 15 : Punjab State Women s Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati was denied permission by the Jail Superintendent in Haryana s Karnal town on Monday to meet 23-year-old labour rights activist Nodeep Kaur, who has been in custody for over a month. This morning the jail Superintendent of Karnal called up the office of Punjab State Women s Commission and said Gulati would have to get the approval of the Haryana government to meet Nodeep Kaur, a commission spokesperson said in a statement.
