Tell Tales 4-8-21
I heard on Monday that Bob Snyder hated everything I wrote about him over the years. Well, this time, he’s no longer around to complain about it!
Bob Snyder passed away on Saturday. Bob was instrumental in the development of the Nor’Easter Club. He owned the Catawba Leasing Company, and previously co-owned Riehl Manufacturing Company, Port Clinton Prop Repair, Cedarlane Campgrounds, and Catawba Mid-Way Marina.
Bob went on to develop Catawba Mini & Heated Boat Storage, The Marsh’s Edge subdivision, Catawba Bay subdivision, and the expansion of the Sutton Center. Bob was a philanthropist of the first order, especially locally.

The award will be used to improve existing connections on the Redcliffe and Old Market sections of the heat network, allowing Bristol City Council to disconnect the hot water system at its Temple Street offices from the existing gas boiler and replace it with a more efficient system.
The money will also fund the replacement of existing gas boilers with low or zero carbon heat sources, allowing rapid growth in the numbers of buildings connected to Bristol’s Heat Network and helping the authority to cut emissions as it heads towards carbon neutrality.
The network, sometimes referred to as district heating, replaces individual buildings’ own heating systems, and often uses heat recovered from industry or renewable sources. Bristol’s heat network currently supplies more than 1,000 properties with low carbon heat from different sources across the city and continues to expand to new areas.

The much-anticipated decision on the fate of the Wayne County Courthouse will not be known for at least some time. The board failed to take any action during the meeting concerning the building, but an Executive Session at the conclusion of the meeting concerned the possible purchase, lease or acquisition of property. No action was taken by the board at the conclusion of the Executive Session. David Harl addressed the board in support of keeping the courthouse, citing its architectural and historic value to the community. Jail Committee Chairman Nathan Jones stated that the board was investigating its options if the Qualified Immunity for Police Bill passes in the Illinois Legislature. Jones stated that the board fully supports the Wayn

Cemetery tour Saturday
Learn about African American history at the Beaches during a walking tour of Lee Kirkland Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. Hosted by the Beaches Museum, the tour will be conducted by local history detective Johnny Woodhouse.
The Lee Kirkland Cemetery has been the burial grounds for the local African American population for the last 100 years or more. With marked and unmarked graves, it can be difficult to trace the lives of the people interred there. Join Woodhouse in an exploration of the cemetery’s lost histories.

Another idea would be to write a loved one a letter using calligraphy. The library has two titles to help with that plan, Calligraphy 101: a Workshop in a Book by Jeaneen Gauthier and Calligraphy in 24 Hours by Vieko Kespersaks which would provide the necessary lessons.
