The FAA has issued technical standard order and supplemental type certificate approvals for installation of Avidyne’s Atlas flight management system (FMS) in the Citation 560XL, Excel, and XLS. The Dzus-mounted Atlas FMS adds modern capabilities such as LPV approaches to older business aircraft without the need to update all the onboard avionics.
With an introductory price of $44,999, the Atlas FMS will be available from Avidyne MRO partners, and Avidyne and the MROs will develop STCs for installation in other Part 23 and 25 business aircraft. The price includes the Avidyne STC for the Citation 560XL, Excel, and XLS.

There is a new option for pilots seeking Cessna Citation 560XL training. LOFT, a Part 142 flight training operation in Carlsbad, California, is expanding its offerings from the current Citation 525 and Citation 560 (Citation V) programs to include initial and recurrent courses for the 560XL.
I had the opportunity to fly LOFT’s new 560XL full-flight simulator recently. Built by Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) in Odessa, Florida, the new ASE 2000 series Level D simulator incorporates the latest visual display and electric motion and control loading technology. The Philippines formally commissioned its first six Sikorsky/PZL S-70i Black Hawks into the Philippines Air Force s 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing on December 10. Now the nation is pondering the acquisition of a second batch for the PAF.
The country signed a $241 million contract for the first batch of 16 S-70is in March 2019 after a deal with Canada to procure a similar number of Bell 412s fell through in February 2018. Although Canada had delivered eight Bell 412s in 2015, Ottawa had subsequently questioned the Philippines’ plans to use the helicopters for “internal security operations.”
