A third Hutchinson USD 308 elementary school has been approved for launch as a redesign school.
After an hour-long presentation to the Kansas State Department of Education with ESSDACK looking on, Lincoln Elementary School staff were given the formal go-ahead from the department to go forward with their redesign efforts.
Or to use KSDE parlance, Lincoln received the go-ahead for a “launch” of its redesign.
Lincoln started studying the redesign process in the fall of 2019. In 2020, the school was approved by KSDE to be an Apollo II school.
“As a part of this process, the Redesign Team talked with staff members, businesses, parents, and students,” said Darla Fisher, Lincoln principal. “These conversations led the staff to create a common reason for wanting to redesign our school. Lincoln will help the students to develop a growth mindset, so that they can become community changers.”
The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education approved a new curriculum on Monday. The board voted for one year of funding for piloting the Leader in Me program for eight of the district s schools.
Leader in Me is designed for K-12 students and fits in with the district’s two primary focuses for the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation, which are rigor and relevance. The curriculum was created by the same organization that developed 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, based partially on the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Franklin Covey. The program utilizes the premise that when a person changes the way things are seen, it influences what the individual does and the results the person gets.
Kindergarten enrollment event for Hutch Schools on April 27
Hutchinson School District is preparing for an in-school, district-wide Kindergarten Roundup at the end of April. Parents with children who turn five on or before Aug. 31, 2021 are invited to the event.
The event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on April 27, in all the district’s neighborhood elementary schools. This is a come-and-go event designed for students to get pre-enrolled and to meet school staff.
New kindergartners whose families would like for them to attend Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen are asked to contact the school for an application. As a districtwide magnet school, Allen does not have boundaries.
