Despite a glitch or two which is expected with any virtual event and new program the event was well received. According to Moore, around 440 people registered for the event, including students from Prespatou, Hudson’s Hope, and North Peace Secondary.
“It was an opportunity for some of the future female leaders in our community to gain the content and the connections.”
The event was held on Whova, a platform focused on engagement, which was very important to organizers.
“Our engagement was more than double a normal event that they [Whova] have. An average event has around 14 community boards; we had 153,” says Moore.

A grass fire, suspected to be arson, is being investigated by Hudson’s Hope Fire Department and RCMP.
The fire was on Canyon Drive near Signal Hill in Hudson’s Hope, B.C. on May 8. The fire department was dispatched to the scene around 10:35 p.m. and were able to put the fire out quickly.
“The fire appears to have been human caused,” stated Hudson’s Hope Fire Chief, Brad Milton. “This was a very careless act. Things could have turned very bad, very quickly. A fire like this could have run into the trees, putting our community, property and human safety at extreme risk with how dry the current conditions are.”

Police are asking for dashcam footage or any other information in relation to the fire.
“We have collected some evidence from the scene which will be used for our investigation. If you have any information or dash cam video from Canyon Drive that night, please contact Hudson’s Hope RCMP,” says Cpl. Rob Gardner.
Thanks to the anonymous gift, NPFFS has created Project Holding Onto Hope, which will sell five-pound bags of cat food for a minimum of five dollar donations to the rescue organization.
“We will be delivering bags to the community for sale and distribution on Thursday, May 13th, using the Driving Force Give’r Truck.”
Budgell says all funds raised will go towards the Hudson’s Hope Fund, which will help pay for medical costs for future animal surrenders.
“The bags may be kept by the purchaser or donated to the Friends of Hudson’s Hope Food Bank,” says Budgell. “Once the Hudson’s Hope Food Bank’s shelves are full, the remaining food can be donated to kickstart the Pet Pantry Program.”

DAWSON CREEK, B.C – The Peace River Regional District board has rejected a request from the Nor’ Pioneer Women’s Institute to hold a plant sale next month.
The WI wanted to hold the 10-day sale in mid to-late May at the Cecil Lake transfer station as part of its ongoing fundraising for a community emergency fund, the Cecil Lake Cemetery, and the Women’s Resource Society.
Electoral Area B Director Karen Goodings said the organization was also considering the Cecil Lake Store as a venue, and wanted the group to be able to use the station as a second option. Both said they would take precautions and follow current COVID-19 public health rules, which currently limit outdoor events to 10.
