What to Watch For …
Bulls: Zach LaVine has a big-time opportunity in front of him. While an All-Star nod feels just as hard as ever to achieve despite LaVine’s improvements, this week could change things.
With Lauri Markkanen joining Wendell Carter Jr. on the injury report – all while going up against several potential All-Stars – the team will truly be on LaVine’s shoulders. That said, we saw the Bulls star step up against the Orlando Magic – scoring 39 points, hauling in 7 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists – in one of his more dominant performances yet (it became clear from the moment the ball tipped that he wasn’t going to let his team lose). The question now is whether or not he can keep up this kind of leadership over the next couple of weeks. If he can, and the Bulls sneak in a few extra W’s, his case for an All-Star roster spot becomes that much better.

• With two matchups against the Knicks, two against the Magic, and one against the Wizards – all below-.500 teams – the Bulls managed to walk away with only a 2-3 record. That is one heck of a missed opportunity … or is it? A missed opportunity might imply that the Bulls are better than those squads, and I’m actually just not sure that is the case. I do believe their talent level is superior to those rosters, but I think the same can be said about their ability to shoot themselves in the foot.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Zion Williams registered 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Kansas City narrowly defeated North Dakota State 49-47 on Saturday night.
Arkel Lamar had 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for Kansas City (7-10, 3-5 Summit League). Jacob Johnson added 10 points. Franck Kamgain had six assists.
North Dakota State scored 20 second-half points, a season low for the team.
Tyree Eady had 14 points for the Bison (10-8, 10-3). Jaxon Knotek added 11 points. Rocky Kreuser had 10 points and seven rebounds. Sam Griesel had a career-high 14 rebounds plus six points.
