230MT of Substandard Coconut oil to be re-exported: Customs

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Customs plans to re-export another consignment of imported Coconut oil containing cancer-causing component Aflatoxin, which is unsuitable for human consumption. Accordingly, 230 metric tonnes of substandard Coconut oil imported by Edirisinghe Edible Oil (Pvt) Ltd, will be re-exported on Tuesday (May. 04). The consignment will be returned to the Malaysian Company from which it was imported to Sri Lanka. The consignment of substandard Coconut oil has been loaded into 12 containers and it is stored at the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT), at the Colombo Port. Latest News

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st); A bilateral discussion between Sri Lanka and People’s Republic of China (PLA) on the sidelines of official visit by Chinese State Councillor and Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe was held in Colombo on Wednesday (28), where the official signing of Military Assistance Protocol took place. The Sri Lankan delegation led by Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) had a fruitful discussion with the visiting Chinese Delegation led by General Fenghe during the session. Chinese Ambassador in Colombo, His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage and Tri-Forces Commanders were also present at the respective sides of the discussion.

Sri Lanka’s exports show remarkable rise despite pandemic situation across world – EDB Chairman April, 29, 2021 Sri Lanka’s Export Performance January - March 2021 Sri Lanka surpassed $ 1 billion exports in March 2021 after a lapse of six months period. As per the Customs statistics, earnings from merchandise exports recorded double digit growth of 62.47% in March 2021 on y-o-y comparison – the March figure being US$ 1,066.1 Mn. Earnings from merchandise exports increased by 11.51% in first quarter 2021 to US$ 2,954.53 Mn compared to first quarter 2020. This growth could be attributed to the gradual lifting of Covid 19 restrictions imposed within the country and globally. Export Development Board (EDB) Chairman Suresh De Mel said; “Sri Lanka’s exports show a remarkable rise despite the current pandemic situation across the World”.
