It will not be wrong to state that it is the fear of death which helped in visualising Gods and Goddesses.  Under its DHARMA concept, Hinduism had devised Ashrama system and divided the lifespan into four Ashramas, namely  Brahmacharya (student), Grihastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest walker / forest dweller) and Sanyasa (renunciate).
