Police close several roads in Gombak for Thaipusam chariot journey

10:51 AM MYT KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Several roads in Gombak district will be closed in conjunction with the Thaipusam chariot journey from Wednesday (Jan 27) until early morning on Jan 29. Gombak police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said the roads were closed following the approval of the National Security Council (NSC) to allow the journey of the chariot carrying the statute of Lord Murugan from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun H.S Lee to Seri Subramaniam Temple in Batu Caves tomorrow. The route involved the slip road to Batu Caves Temple, the slip road from MRR2 to Jalan Perusahaan Batu Caves, junction of Jalan Perusahaan to Batu Caves roundabout and road to main bathing spot in Sungai Batu Caves, he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Firm action against those who flout Thaipusam chariot SOPs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will take firm action against those who flout standard operation procedures (SOPs) during the journey of the silver chariot, in conjunction with Thaipusam, tomorrow. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador ( pix) said PDRM would monitor the route of the chariot from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, here, to the Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple in Batu Caves. He said the (permitted) journey in question did not include moving in a procession together or standing and observing by any individual or groups along the route. ‘’It is stressed that the movement of the chariot must abide by the tight conditions and SOPs, namely, the chariot cannot stop at any location along the route while no drum equipment, wind instruments or music are allowed.

IGP: Police to monitor Thaipusam chariot journey to Batu Caves and back

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will be monitoring the movement of the Thaipusam chariot to Batu Caves and back to ensure compliance to the standard operating procedure (SOP), says Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador. The Inspector-General of Police said police were aware of the government’s decision to allow the chariot to journey from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Jalan Tun H. S. Lee to the Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple at Batu Caves. The journey does not include a public procession or observers along the designated route. The chariot will be allowed to move to Batu Caves on Jan 27 between 3am and 6am and will return to Kuala Lumpur on Jan 29, he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 26).

Thaipusam: Silver chariot journey will not involve public

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 25): For the first time, the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple, Batu Caves’ silver chariot will make its journey with a limited participation of 10 people, without involving the public in conjunction with Thaipusam this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The chariot processions, which started in 1983, were normally accompanied by 10,000 Hindu devotees and took about 16 hours but this time its journey would be faster and expected to end in about three hours, without making a stop at any location. The temple’s committee chairman, Tan Sri R. Nadarajah said the 10 people who would be accompanying the 7.3-metre high chariot would include the driver, electrical technician, lighting man, a temple priest and five committee members.
